Z-Shoe Drive Coming to April 13 Mixer
Judy and Mike Wexler, the founders of Coachella Valley Has Sole, are putting their passion for helping others into action by providing new and gently used shoes to those in need across the valley. Their organization collects shoes from local businesses like Running Wild and the Birkenstock store, and hosts local shoe drives in large residential communities.
Their team collects the shoes, sorts and cleans them, and if needed, puts in new insoles and shoe laces. Any shoes that are deemed unfit are taken to a recy-cling facility to be made into sustainable products. In this way, there is absolutely no waste, and nothing is going in the landfill.
Shoes are then donated to three very needy causes:
- Coachella Valley Rescue Mission- to help families get back on their feet, and have appropriate footwear to interview for potential jobs.
- Desert Hot Springs Middle and High School – to provide quality sneakers for the students for every-day wear for school, and give the children an opportunity to participate in sports.
- Well in the Desert – to provide large and wide size footwear for the homeless population.
On Monday, April 13th at the regular Monday Mixer, PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE clean out your closets a day or two prior and bring in the shoes you are no longer wearing or are last season’s style. Someone in the area might be thrilled with your “old” shoes as, to them, they’ll be their “new” shoes! There will be receptacles for you to place your shoes in; and you can bring in multiple pairs of shoes too!
